Five Most Important Keys to Optimal Health 2-9-16

  1. Posture.  Keeping your chin up not only makes you feel better psychologically and emotionally, but also physically.  Maintaining healthy posture through chiropractic adjustments and massage is a great way to stand up straight and take on whatever comes your way… the good and the bad.  Keeping the “spinal curves” in proper alignment is vital for overall better health.
  2. Nutrition.  Eating during the holidays is fun and doesn’t need to be detrimental to your health.  Try sticking with healthy proteins instead of the starchy carbohydrates.  Turkey, ham, beef, or fish are all great sources of protein.  Load up on the fresh veggies too.  The veggies will provide the needed fiber and vitamins you need to live a vital and healthy holiday.  Dessert in moderation is okay, unless you are on a diet like our Ideal Protein program.  Don’t let a few holiday parties blow your hard work and health goals.
  3. Rest.  I have notice people tend to get horrible colds or flu during the holidays.  I don’t believe it is because more “germs” are out there.  I believe it is because our bodies are dealing with stress differently.  Instead of being strong and resilient, our bodies are weakened because of the weather, finances, poor nutrition, travel stress, or even emotional family stress.  Keep things in perspective and enjoy this time of year.  Get adequate rest and sleep so your immune system can work its magic.  Consider eliminating sugar from your diet and increasing your vitamin C, Zinc, and B vitamins.
  4. Exercise.  Working out is a great way to combat the stress of the holidays.  It will also help you maintain a healthy weight so you can participate in the parties and food your friends and family create for you.  Or you for them.  In this area we have a great sidewalk system, river walk, Snap, Mo Zumba, Westside YMCA, Genesis, Planet Fitness, and Absolute Fitness.  You can also get a great workout in your own home if you can handle that.  With YouTube, DVDs, and your own imagination you can stay healthy on a holiday budget.
  5. PMA.  Keep your mind right and attitude healthy by “thinking positively”.  Positive mental attitude is the key to a happy and healthy day.  Chose to be happy and healthy.  Avoid negative people, images, behaviors, and thoughts.  Live your life in the “now” and forgive quickly.  Enjoy the present and don’t dwell on the past and don’t worry about the future.
